abstract = "On 15 January 2022, TongaHunga Ha'apai erupted in the Tongan
archipelago in the southern Pacific Ocean. This eruption reached
nearly 60 km height, and triggered the formation of copious
atmospheric waves. In this talk, we discuss our modeling of the
atmospheric gravity waves (GWs) which were created that day. We
discuss how we utilize the MESORAC and nudged (to MERRA-2) HIAMCM
models to determine the neutral response in the mesosphere and
thermosphere to this eruption. We then compare our results with
data from ICON, GPS/TEC, and ionosondes. We find that our model is
able to capture many of the observed wave and neutral wind
features quite well.",
